formula to calculate the % of electricity energy generated by wind?

I’m supposed to use a formula in excel to calculate the % of electricity energy generated by wind. I’m given the wind energy and the total energy. for example.. wind energy = 3.0 (Billion kW-h) and total energy= 3457.4 (billion kW-h) which makes the % of electricity energy equal to 0.087. How was 0.087 calculated? What formula was used?

  1. rotegrütze says:

    The calculation is simply division:

    (wind energy) ÷ (total energy)

Since this value is expressed as a percent, some people might write that expression like this:

    (wind energy) ÷ (total energy) × 100%

Substituting the values you supplied in your question works out just right:

    3.0 TW·h ÷ 3457.4 TW·h × 100% = 0.00087 × 100% = 0.087%

I hope my answer isn’t too late for you.
