EARTH DAY 2010 SPECIAL 4 simple tips for Going Green by Green Power Science

Here are 4 simple tips. Compact Fluorescent SAVES US 0 A YEAR IN MONEY! Air up your tires, proper tire pressure, Paint your roof white, lighter colored roofing saves money and slows warming, USE A TOASTER OVEN. Also we use our cargo containers for a demonstration, I will be showing you how to convert a cargo container into a living space. Ironically, CFLs present an opportunity to prevent mercury from entering our air, where it most affects our health. The highest source of mercury in our air comes from burning fossil fuels such as coal, the most common fuel used in the US to produce electricity. A CFL uses 75% less energy than an incandescent light bulb and lasts at least 6 times longer. A power plant will emit 10mg of mercury to produce the electricity to run an incandescent bulb compared to only 2.4mg of mercury to run a CFL for the same time. Always Dispose of Your CFL Properly While CFLs for your home are not legally considered hazardous waste according to federal solid waste rules, it is still best for the environment to dispose of your CFL properly upon burnout. Only large commercial users of tubular fluorescent lamps are required to recycle. If recycling is not an option in your area (see below on how to find out), place the CFL in a sealed plastic bag and dispose the same way you would batteries, oil-based paint and motor oil at your local Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Site. If your local HHW Collection Site cannot accept CFLs (check Earth911.org

I enjoy watching your videos as usual Dan. We had a talk about dark roofs before, since heat rises I was thinking of a pipe system on dark roofs in a coil formation, which could send hot water back into your tank.

@Hamish121212 Much of it is in the form of a gas and released when they break. There is some absorbed by the phosphor. Most dumps have monthly drop off for OIL, old gas, rotten paint etc. They also take CPF and long tube bulbs. Many recycling pickups are now offering separate bulb bags. The bulbs are not perfect but far offset the mercury released into the air from current coal fire technology when considering the 75% reduction in power consumption over the life of the bulb.

We need to have a vote on geoengineering/chemtrails before solar power is a safe future source of power imo. Good video, the HE bulbs are bad compared to LED tech.

  4. overunitydotcom says:

Better use modern warmwhite LEDs, as the fluorescent bulbs hurt your eyes !
They emit toxic mercury resonance frequencies which hurt your eyes !
Never use them ! Also they have a poor power factor, so they
need an additional capacitor at the input.
Just check them with a killawatt power meter and you will see the bad power factor of only 0.6 or so…

    Regards, Stefan.

Attic fans work a lot better if you have soffit vents. They are very easy to install and can help with energy costs on their own.
I am also working on my own solar panel series if anyone is interested in checking it out.

  6. crimberland says:

I also agree with the led bulbs. The other problem with cfl and modern bulbs is they make your body feel like its day time so your rest bite is limited. Try a few nights by candle light from when the sun sets and you’ll sleep really well. Still loving green power science though.
p.s There is something called the fuji circuit i think you should check out dan, so far 400 leds have been lit with the circuit on a single aa battery or an earth battery.
Would be nice if you had a shot a re post. peace

Hey Denise,do you think that Dan should grow a beard?Maybe a big Grizzly Adams type one?

  8. JULYINJULY says:

LEDs are a good choice but for newbees to going green, CFL are a good start. I have had them for years now. They are an easy choice. I am now upgrading to LED bulbs, not for fear, just to be more efficient. thumbs up guys;-)

  9. eldrama1 says:

i’m hooked on your vids. Learned so much and saved so much. i feel like i should send you a check. thanks!

  10. GREENPOWERSCIENCE says:

@eldrama1 Send all checks to Dan R… just kidding. Thank you so much for the nice comment and enjoying our video.

  11. LaLupa234 says:

Wow, i had been expecting much more from this video by reading the title.
    But sadly, these tips
    - are not essential
    - have no big influence on changing lifestyles
    - don’t have any context or relation
The only motivation I can see here is “how can we safe money”.
It’s all about the money. That is sad.

    Greetings from Germany

If anyone lives by a Sam Club the price of the bulbs are drastically cheaper I picked up a few 8 packs for $1.83 a pack (just under 23 cents a bulb)

  13. 04aurora04 says:

    @04aurora04
go to Samsclub website and type your specific zip code to get local prices. Then search for CFL and you should see a few more expensive bulbs but also the cheap 8 packs or 13 watt – 60 watt equivalent bulbs

  14. STEVEDIGIBOYtv says:

Considering the Gulf oil spill by BP cheaping out on structure it may be better to sell your cars rather than support an industry that is destroying the Gulf environment. Obama seems more lame than bush is not ending war etc. Sad,

  15. Strutingeagle says:

Humm, power science is very interesting but tell me, does Deneise have a sister? Preferably a single sister?

  16. dannonflynn says:

I love your videos! Great information you are sharing, we need all the information we can get these days! Dan, you are a great mad scientist! And Denise, you are so beautiful! What a great team you two make! Thank you!

  17. tfrenn says:

@GREENPOWERSCIENCE first off we don’t need coal at all, the technology is there for magnetic and geothermal energy, advanced technology that would reshape current electrical generation methods is being suppressed by certain special interest groups. Making the CFLs requires workers to handle mercury in either solid or liquid form because a small amount of the metal is put into each bulb to start the chemical reaction that creates light, many are suffering from mercury poisoning

  18. tfrenn says:

@GREENPOWERSCIENCE CFLs should be discarded at recycling centers. Hundreds of millions of busy Americans, however, will toss these dangerous bulbs in the trash, atop table scraps and junk mail. CFLs will clog landfills from coast to coast. Decades hence, mercury will have leeched into the environment. Americans will wonder why people are suffering brain, kidney, and lung damage. Usually, environmentalists want hazardous materials out of, not in, our homes. Phony Environmentalists

  19. TOPOFFMAN says:

This guy is gay and green.

  20. cadentavaricegrtrj says:

The Oil companies are trying their best to stop free energy ideas from spreading to common people.
We need to put an end to this corruption ,start generating your own electricity now.
Look for the LT MAGNET MOTOR in youtube video search. Join the Revolution!!

  21. rainbowsalads says:

you can actually save petrol by not filling the tank full , just fill 1/4 of the tank, the reduced weight increases efficiency and offering quicker acceleration sharper breaking and handling if you need it , reduce weight = reduce fuel consumption,. i always take my spare wheel out for city driving. they weigh about 20 kilo . keep a mobile at hand if you do , and always take the spare on long journeys.

  22. Stabacs says:

Interesting idea to build roofs in bright colours. but if you live in a colder state you should paint them darker, right?

  23. gmodrules123456789 says:

ill save gas mileage but i WILL NEVER EVER EVER EVER SWITCH TO CFLS I AM STICKING WITH Incandescent’s AND LED bulbs and nothing will switch me not even at gunpoint CFLS are bad for the eviroment everyone so Dot GO CFLS go with LEDS there brighter and more efficient and they dont contain mercury. also if you want to reduce gas costs for yourself buy a hybrid BUT NEVER an electric car such as a preus there really expensive and when they run out of juice then you got to wait 4 hours for a recharge.

  24. bctruck says:

i changed every single light bulb (except the one in the fridge and the oven) in my house to CFL,and saved an amazing amount of money on my monthly bill.i even changed the bulbs in my workshop to CFL,s.octobers bill was $27.00 for a home with 1800 sq feet. novembers was was $47.00. november was a little colder.my house is all electric.

  25. GREENPOWERSCIENCE says:

@bctruck They make a big difference:-)
